Lock and unlock solution

This option can be either lock or unlock your solution, depending on the current state of your solution.

When two or more users are working in the same solution, you can lock a solution in order to prevent other users to save the solution. To lock a solution, you have to have at least Contributor rights. For more information on this, see Changing security in Folders and Solutions.

When you lock a solution, all other users working with the same solution receive a notification, and the Lock Solution button in your instance of the application is changed into Unlock Solution. For the other users, the lock symbol in the strip is also updated, and when they click it they can verify which user locked the solution.

As a regular user (i.e. a users that is not System Administrator, see DMS Options) you can only unlock a solution, if you were the one that locked it. When you unlock the solution, again all other users who have the same solution open will receive a notification.

A lock symbol indicates you cannot save the solution.

The following rules apply:

  • You cannot save a locked solution, unless you were the one to lock it.
  • You can only unlock a solution if you were the person that locked it, or when you did not lock it but you are System Administrator.
  • A locked solution can be opened as usual. Saving can only be done by the user that applied the lock.
  • A lock can also be released from the administration console.
  • You can only use the Save As option to save a locked solution. The locked status is not copied to the new solution, but stays with the original solution until the lock is released.
